WELCOME TO

CASA MAITRI

If you have thought about taking a break, going on a retreat, exploring a unique, beautiful place, and delighting your palate …

Now is the time!

Located three hours south of the city of Oaxaca, in a traditional Zapotec village, we offer a retreat space for those who wish to disconnect from the world in the middle of a beautiful environment of plants, flowers, beautiful views of the mountains and walks in the woods, by the creek and small waterfalls.  All of the buildings are ecological, built with rammed earth (cob), local wood and thatch.  Organic gardens and vegetables.  Solar heated shower.  Dry compost toilets.  On the edge of the forest.  Includes a yoga/meditation hall.  We welcome group retreats.

DIRECTIONS

Via public transportation from Oaxaca city:

The suburban van company, Lineas Unidas, Bustamante # 601, Corner (esquina) Xochitl, 951-516-2472 — leaves every half hour on the hour and half hour.  And if you take option 1 (below), the van leaves every 15 minutes.

There are three options:

Option 1:  After 2 hours on the van from Oaxaca, get out at Miahuatlan.  Then take a taxi to the San Sebastian Rio Hondo base, called San Sebastian Tres Aguas.  It is near Farmacia Vasquez.  This collective car/truck will take you directly to our village, where we are located  The driver should take you to the store of (la tienda de) Eloy y Mary, which they should know.  The store is on the corner.  Mary will most likely take you to your room.

Option 2: After almost 3 hours in the van from Oaxaca, get off at la Venta.  Wait where there is a green sign that says SS Rio Hondo, where the road veers left…. Until a collective car/truck, passes by.  Waive at the car.  If they have room, they will stop to pick you up.  Arriving at San Sebastián Río Hondo (several minutes after the welcome sign), they will leave you at the motorcycle taxi site. Walking or by motorcycle taxi, entering the town on the right, go down the hill/street. Take the second right and go straight until the road almost ends, one block. On the left side, ask the store on the corner for Mari and Eloy. They will take you to your room.

Option 3:  Get off 3 hours later in San Jose del Pacifico, a more popular town, where you can find taxis for 200 – 250 pesos to San Sebastián Rio Hondo.  Recently, it has been difficult for people to find a taxi. The driver should take you to the store of (la tienda de) Eloy y Mary, which they should know.  The store is on the corner.  Mary will most likely take you to your room.

Via car:  (Do not follow Google maps directions)

Leaving Oaxaca, take highway 175 towards the coast, Pochutla.  The last gas station is after two hours in a town called Miahuatlan.  After around 3 hours in the car, take the turn off at La Venta, veer left. (This is the town just before San Jose Del Pacifico.) There is a green sign that says SS Rio Hondo.

Take the cement road until you come to San Sebastián. Several minutes past the welcome sign. (About 15 minutes from La Venta).

Arriving to the center of town, (a few minutes after the welcome/bienvenidos sign) take a right. Go straight down the hill. Then take the second right. Go to the end of the road and look for parking. There’s a store on the corner.  Ask for Mary, Are or Chela; they will take you to your rooom.
