DIRECTIONS:

Via public transportation from Oaxaca city:

The minibus company, Lineas Unidas, address: Bustamante # 601, Corner (esquina) Xochitl, phone: 52 951-516-2472 — leaves every half hour on the hour and half hour.  And if you take option 1 (below), the van leaves every 15 minutes.

There are two options:

Option 1:  After 2 hours on the minibus from Oaxaca, get off the minibus in Miahuatlan.  Then take a taxi to the San Sebastian Rio Hondo “collectivo” taxi base, called San Sebastian Tres Aguas.  It is near Farmacia Vasquez.  The address is 156 Mariano Escobedo. Then take a “collectivo” taxi to San Sebastian. Ask the driver to take you to the store of (la tienda de) Eloy y Mari, which they should know.  The store is on the corner. Ask for Mari at the store and she will meet you and walk you to Casa Maitri. The minibus from Oaxaca city to Mihuatlan costs 100 pesos and the collectivo taxi from Mihuatlan to San Sebastian costs 60 pesos. Lineas Unidas and the collectivo taxis only accept pesos as payment.

Show the picture below to the taxi driver from Lineas Unidas for this option:

Option 2:  Stay on the minibus for an additional hour and get off in San Jose del Pacifico, a more popular town, where you can take a mototaxi for 200 pesos to San Sebastián Rio Hondo. Ask the mototaxi driver to take you to the store of (la tienda de) Eloy y Mari, which they should know.  The store is on the corner.  Ask for Mari at the store and she will walk you to Casa Maitri. The minibus from Oaxaca city to San Jose del Pacifico costs 190 pesos and the mototaxi to San Sebastian from San Jose del Pacifico costs 200 pesos. Lineas Unidas and the mototaxis only accept pesos as payment.

Via car:  (Do not follow Google maps directions. The route is not updated.)

Leaving Oaxaca, take highway 175 south towards Pochutla near the coast. Stay on highway 175 until La Venta where you will turn off of highway 175. Google Maps will try and have you veer off of highway 175 before La Venta in El Portillo de San Andres and take you towards San Andres Paxtlan. Do not go this way. Stay on highway 175 until La Venta. Beware that the last gas station is in a town called Miahuatlan after about two hours south from Oaxaca city, before La Venta.  Around an hour after passing through Mihuatlan (3 hours south of Oaxaca city), you will come to a fork in the road in La Venta shown in the picture below where you will veer left. (La Venta is the town just before San Jose Del Pacifico.) There is a green sign that says SS Rio Hondo pointing to the left. If you continue straight, you will pass the turnoff and arrive in San Jose del Pacifico where you will have to backtrack to this fork.

From here it is about twenty minutes further to San Sebastián. You will see a Welcome to San Sebastian sign.

Five minutes after the welcome sign, you will arrive at the center of town, a small three-way intersection. Here you will turn right down the hill. Go two blocks and take the second right. Go to the end of the road and look for parking. There’s a store on the corner on the left.  Ask for Mari who will walk you the rest of the way to Casa Maitri.

There is paid parking you can arrange upon arriving.
